Principles

It is essential that IAG provision and practice are led by and responsive to young people’s needs. To achieve this, delivery should comply with the following principles, which underpin all professional codes of conduct and practice for IAG practitioners.

IAG should be:

  • impartial – independent of any vested interests
  • confidential – within legal requirements
  • focused on young people’s needs
  • owned by young people
  • supportive of equality of opportunity
  • understood by all young people
  • accessible to all young people.

Questions to ask yourself

  • How well do your IAG arrangements reflect these principles?
  • How do you know?
  • How can you ensure that these principles guide the further development of provision and practice in IAG?
