Effective Delivery

The goal of the 14-19 reforms is to help all young people fulfil their potential by the age of 19 and enjoy ongoing success in learning, work and life. Effective delivery of careers education and IAG is vital to achieving this. It ensures that young people understand all their options, that they have the knowledge and skills they need to make good use of IAG, and that they make sound decisions and smooth transitions. As part of their action to implement the 14-19 reforms, local consortia and their partners will need to review the delivery of careers education and IAG to ensure that it is effective in supporting individual progression and success.

The characteristics of effective delivery include:

  • are supported by written schemes of work
  • feature a wide range of teaching methods chosen according to their fitness for purpose
  • have clearly defined learning outcomes
  • link with related curriculum areas
  • challenge stereotyping
  • support personalisation and differentiation in response to young people’s needs
  • enable young people to make effective use of IAG

the practical involvement of parents, carers, other learning providers, employers, external IAG providers and other agencies in curriculum and IAG activities

systems to identify, assess and meet the support needs of all young people

the provision of impartial information, advice and guidance for all young people

systems for monitoring, reviewing, evaluating and improving delivery.
